Keep pets safe for the Fourth

Animal shelters are asking people to remember their pets this holiday weekend.

PAWS For Life in Pueblo says they see a lot of lost dogs come into the shelter over the weekend because the dogs get scared of the loud noises from fireworks and run away from their homes.

Linda Mitchell, the shelter director, said dogs’ ears are incredibly sensitive to loud noises so it’s best to keep them occupied with noises they are comfortable with.

“Keep them in a basement with a lot of noise, music, stereos going. Keep them in a safe place away from all the activities and the doors opening and closing and gates opening and closing,” Mitchell said.

If you see a loose dog over the holiday weekend, call animal services or take it to a vet so they can find its home.
