Fireworks: What are the rules?

Many are rushing to the fireworks stands with the holiday weekend just around the corner, but before making the purchase, you may want to check local rules.

In Colorado, fireworks that leave the ground or explode are illegal unless you have a permit.

All fireworks are illegal in Colorado Springs without a permit.

Fireworks may be used in Pueblo on July 4 between 7 a.m. and midnight only, and must not violate state laws.

Pueblo County, El Paso County, Fremont County all said that no other restrictions are in place at this time. You just need to abide by state law.

Teller County told KRDO that all fireworks in the county are illegal, however Cripple Creek and Woodland Park pretty much just follow suit with other counties.

What is allowed includes:

Sparklers
Smoke and Punk
Fountains
Novelties
Crackle and Strobe
Wheel and Spinners

What is NOT allowed unless with a permit includes:

Bottle Rockets
Sky Rockets
Roman Candles
Firecrackers
Missiles
Parachutes
Sky Flyers
Display Shells
Aerial Items (Cakes)

These rules were in place as of Tuesday, June 28. Things could change closer to July 4. To check on restrictions and laws, contact your local law enforcement agency or fire station.
