Medical marijuana patients in COS rally for more growing

marijuana patients in colorado springs say a city ordinance is preventing them from getting better. they held a rally today … demanding the right to grow as many marijuana plants as they need. krdo newschannel 13’s bonnie silkman was there … and explains whether the protest will make a difference. they want to follow their doctors orders, but they say, they can’t. “you’ve got patients who need more than 12 plants. they require concentrates, oils, all different things. 12 plants doesn’t cut it, at all.” but in colorado springs, 12 marijuana plants is the limit. “my proper plant count would be between 24 and 36 plants.” “our mayor has openly stated that they are getting rid of all homegrows, they’re chipping away at everyone’s right to grow.” “shame of mayor suthers, he’s forgotten people he was elected to represent so shame on him.” “organizers chose this location because they were hoping to see mayor john suthers himself. we did try to contact mayor suthers, but he’s out of town.” “he needs to leave the plant count alone, if the doctor says we need to grow 36 plants, then leave us alone.” “my daughter is a cannabis patient, she’s fighting cancer for the second time.” i was allowed to grow 99 plants, i’ve been a caregiver for 8 years. i’ve helped those kids for along time. i don’t know how to go to them now and tell them i can’t grow for them anymore. city council members say this protest hasn’t gone unnoticed. they’re trying find a solution… a compromise to allow everyone to get the medicine they need – and protect neighborhoods from large marijuana grows. in c.s. b.s. krdo nc 13 city council members say they’re only trying to limit the amount of marijuana plants grown at home …not stop homegrows all together.
