Man, 53, dies 8 hours after being booked into JeffCo jail

An investigation is underway after a 53-year-old man died about eight hours after he was booked into the Jefferson County jail.

The Denver Post reports the man, whose name has not been released, was booked at 5:45 p.m. Monday and was found unresponsive at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer says there is no indication of trauma, and the death does not appear to be suspicious.

The man was booked for failing to appear at a court hearing.

No other information was released.
