Power station vote pushed again

A decision that has been pending for more than two years has once again been postponed.

The Pueblo City Council delayed the historic designation vote for Black Hills power station 5 & 6.

The vote to designate station 5 & 6 is now set for Sept. 26, but that’s not without a lot of work from Black Hills Vice President Christopher Burke and the interested developer, Ryan McWilliams, who also is working on the old Alpha Beta plant in Pueblo.

Burke and McWilliams have had 13 meetings in the past month under the direction of the City Council.

They are still in disagreement of whether the building should be a historic landmark, but there have been discussions about future opportunities.

Both parties are continuing to work together to hopefully come up with more solid information by the next meeting.

“We’ll know in 12 weeks whether or not we’ll be able to make something happen in 12 weeks. I think we have all the right people at the table and we’re going to give it our best shot,” Burke said.

“It’s a big project and we need to make sure that they win, we win, the rate payers win and the pueblo community wins. that’s our goal, personally,” McWilliams said.

A few big players in the redevelopment of buildings in Denver, including Larimer Square and Union Station, have come forward and are in support of saving the building.
