Humane Society hopes new cat environment will help adoption
It was move in day for some furry friends at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region on Monday.
More than 40 cats were moved from their old cages into a new adoption center at the facility on Abbot Lane.
Jan McHugh-Smith, President of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, said that having cats in this new open enclosure may help boost cat adoption rates.
“About two years ago, the human society opened up one room that have cats living in a more open environment, and what we found is that cats get adopted much more quickly in that environment then they do in single cages behind glass which is how they’ve been for 16 years,” said McHugh-Smith.
The remainder of the expansion, including a new lost and found center, disaster holding space and a dog park, is slated to open in early fall.
