Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

Red flags, delays and accidents were part of this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, “We were about 2 and a half hours off that time.” says Rhys Millen. That’s how long Millen believe many drivers were delayed this morning, although he posted a time of 8:57. “We had 3 boxes to check, we checked two of them. Winning the electric modified division, lowering that record by 10 seconds. We were going for the overall, but unfortunately the balance of the car grip wasn’t there to allow us to push further.”

In addition to the delay, the heat of the road may have contributed to the a slightly slicer surface. “I found the road to be pretty slippery. I thought the road was a little better last year. I think maybe it’s a little hotter today and that tends to change the way the car runs.” says Paul Dallenbach.

No worries for speed demon Romain Dumas who claimed the king of the hill title with the first run of the day and a big win calls for a big celebration. “Tonight will be a big one. We have a big team, 14 people, pushing like hell just to achieve the victory. So tonight they will also have a part of the victory.”

The 100th anniversary of the race up America’s mountain proved to be a formidable foe.
