57-yr-old Colo. woman dies in fatal motorcycle accident

A 17-year-old has been cited for Careless Driving Caused Death after she was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident off Colorado 285.

Colorado State Patrol responded to the intersection of Chaffee County Road 140 off Colorado 285 at around 1:17 p.m. on Saturday. A 57-year-old woman from Green Mountain Falls, Colo. was found dead at the scene and a 70-year-old man also from Green Mountain Falls was transported to a local hospital.

According to CSP reports, the 17-year-old was traveling in a Mitsubishi Endeavor and was pulling out of a stop sign going westbound on Chaffee County Road 140 when the Green Mountain Falls couple riding on a Harley Davidson traveling southbound on Colorado 285 had to swerve around the teen.

The teen reportedly stopped in the middle of Colorado 285, causing the Harley Davidson to roll on to its left side. The couple was thrown from the bike and into the right shoulder of County Road 140.

Reports state that the two on the Harley Davidson were not wearing a helmet.

The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification to next of kin.

CSP do not believe speed or alcohol played a role in this crash.

This is an ongoing investigation.
