Pikes Peak International Hill Climb impacts businesses

The race up America’s mountain is Sunday.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is living up to its name, bringing people from all over the world to the region and that means good news for business.

Mark Redburn, who is coming from San Jose, California, is one of the tens of thousands of fans coming for the race.

“It’s kind of a bucket list ride to do. That’s why I’m here,” he said.

Part of Redburn’s visit includes staying at a hotel and eating at local restaurants.

People who are hear for the Hill Climb are giving an economic boost to businesses in the Pikes Peak region.

The Sports Corp measured the economic impact of the 2013 race. Its study showed it brought in $6.6 million in direct sales by local businesses in the Pikes Peak region.

Marv Parliament, who owns Wines of Colorado, said he prepares for events like the Hill Climb in advance.

He said during the warmer months he keeps more wine stocked up and has more staff come in for the tourism rush.
