CSPD educate park goers on car break-ins

The Colorado Springs Police Department was posted up at Red Rocks Canyon Open Space on Saturday educating hikers on car theft.

The Citizens Advisory Committee handed out pamphlets and talked with hikers about the importance of preventing vehicle break-ins.

They say break-ins often occur near trailheads, parks and parking lots. But preventative measures like locking your doors and keeping your valuables out of plain sight can help you not become a victim.

“I think one of the reasons why it seems like we have more car break-ins in these types of areas is because we have more people out and about. So many people are enjoying the parks on a beautiful day like today and their cars are out here, and the thieves look for those cars that are in the parks,” said Officer Sid Santos.

The committee will travel throughout Colorado Springs this summer in an effort to educate hikers.
