Electric or Gas?
It’s not exactly the roar of a racing engine but electric cars are quickly becoming a dominant force at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, “Just like our bodies that require oxygen, a gas car requires oxygen. An electric car does not. Think of it as the difference of being able to have an oxygen mask on you while you’re flying, versus trying to breathe in very thin air.” says Blake Fuller, founder and CEO of GO PUCK. Fuller has won at the Hill in a gasoline powered cars now he drive electric.
Rhys Millen also made the switch and wasted no time setting a record, “I think they’ve really captured the essence of performance, and what the vehicle dynamics needs to be.”
Not everyone is convince about their longevity, but electric cars are certainly being embraced at the Hill. “Whether it’s a bridge technology or the future, we don’t know. But I think it goes back to the roots of Pikes Peak which is basically to prove technology, and that’s what’s being done.” says David Donner, Time Attack 2 record holder.
Millen and Fuller join eight other drivers and riders that will attack the hill with electricity on Sunday.
