Lightning damages Colorado Springs home

Lightning struck a little close to home for a family living on the east side of Colorado Springs.

On the outside of the home at Doyle Place, you can see the corner of the roof is scorched, and a nearby tree lost some leaves and branches.

Most of the damage happened to the inside of this home.

The lightning blew out portion of the sheet rock on a wall directly below the roof.
The fire department carefully checked the home to make sure there was no active fire burning.

The people living there saw a flash and heard a giant boom, making their ears ring.

They say it was exactly what they would expect from a lightning strike, but never thought it would happen to them.

“At first I saw the wall in front of me blow out about a four-by-four-foot section. We’re all okay but it was deafening,” Laura Allen said.

The family was told it could take a couple of days for an assessment but they expect insurance to cover the damage.
