Damage left in El Paso County following Thursday storm.
Colorado Springs was not spared from this batch of severe weather. From hail to lightning striking one home on the east side of Colorado Springs.
“I thought it was a tornado coming through, I was ready to run to the basement,” said Julius Hansen.
While no tornadoes blew through Peyton Thursday, hail did.
“All the sudden the hail came on it and just kept pounding away,” said Hansen.
The hail left traces on the roads, in yards and even some damage.
Ellen Corodnier drove home through the hail and found a small mess waiting for her.
“Just a little while to clean it up, I thought it was clean when I left this morning, but certainly isn’t now,” said Corodnier.
No flooding in Manitou Springs from the Waldo Canyon Burn Scar, but residents did say they noticed a difference in the water levels on Fountain Creek, as the city has dredged the creek to account for debris coming off the burn scar.
“The other day we got one of those severe threats on the phone and I went back and looked and nothing happened, maybe two inches or so,” said Donna Schilling.
At a house on Doyle Place, the last thing they expected out of Thursday’s storm, was for lightning to strike their home.
“It was the loudest boom I have ever heard,” said homeowner Laura Allen.
The storm produced a total of 90 strikes in the Colorado Springs area, and one blew out a portion of the wall inside the home.
“At first I saw the wall in front of me blow out about a 4-foot by 4-foot section,” said Allen.
The fire department carefully checked the home to make sure there was no active fire burning.
“The sun came out and we’re all right,” Allen said.
That was the end of Thursday’s storm damage.
