Water fears hurting local businesses
More fallout from the water contamination crisis in Security-Widefield and Fountain. KRDO NewsChannel 13 is now hearing that it’s hurting several local businesses.
Few things can get between an early riser and their coffee. But apparently fears of contaminated water can.
“Our sales dropped over 30 percent in a week,” said Dee Dee Reinstein, owner of Morning Glory Coffee.
The sudden drop in sales is a huge hit for the small, family-run business in Widefield.
“As soon as that came out, and people were worried about the water we instantly had a drop in business. When an entire community is affected by the idea that there may be a problem with the water, they get scared and they stop going to their local establishments,” Reinstein said.
From beverages to food, the fear factor is widespread.
“I think it’s a matter of customer confidence. I continue to feed the food to my family, I continue to eat it. There is no evidence that this contaminant is taken up by the produce,” said Susan Gordon, of Ventetucci Farms.
Until the health risks become crystal clear it seems many are staying cautious before they eat or drink.
Care And Share will have a truck filled with free bottled-water at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Security on Friday beginning at 10 am. It’s a first come, first served basis.
