Highway 96 reopens after fire that destroyed train trestle
A southeastern Colorado highway that was closed because of a wildfire has reopened.
Highway 96 was closed between mile markers 142 and 145 west of Haswell.
The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office tweeted photos showing thick smoke blowing across the road.
The photos also showed a train trestle burning. It was destroyed.
Haswell is located on Highway 96 about 93 miles east of Pueblo.
