Injured cat rescued after midnight call for help

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region says a cat is recovering from serious injuries after getting her leg caught in a fence.

HSPPR Animal Law Enforcement Officer Alethea Nolen received the call in the middle of the night.

“The poor cat was hanging by her ankle and had been there for about an hour,” Officer Nolen said. “I wasn’t able to handle her because she was scared and in a lot of pain. I ended up catching her under her arms, and I lifted her up enough for the Good Samaritan who called us to bend the wood slats apart enough for us to pull her foot out.”

The cat, which the Humane Society is calling Picket, says her toe was almost gone and the skin on her back leg was exposed to the bone. She was taken into surgery to repair the damage. Her toe had to be amputated.

Picket is now recovering at the Humane Society. She will most likely go up for adoption in a few weeks.
