Colorado Springs and Pueblo swelter in record breaking heat

Both Colorado Springs and Pueblo set new record highs Tuesday.

The official National Weather Service thermometer at the Colorado Springs Airport reached 101 degrees, which ties the hottest temperature ever recorded at the airport and beats the old record for this date by 6 degrees.

The last time Colorado Springs reached 101 degrees was on June 26, 2012, during the Waldo Canyon Fire.

The official National Weather Service thermometer at the Pueblo Airport reached 105 degrees, breaking the old daily record of 104 degrees.

The record highs come as much of the southwestern United States bakes amid a record heat wave.

Relief in the form afternoon showers and thunderstorms is expected. Clouds were already building along the mountains on the west side of Colorado Springs at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
