Man imprisoned on other charges linked to 2009 disappearance

Authorities have linked a man imprisoned on other charges to the 2009 disappearance of a member of the Colorado Mountain Bike Hall of Fame.

In a news release Monday, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Saguache County Sheriff’s Office and the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office say 46-year-old Charles Moises Gonzales faces first-degree murder and other charges in the death of Michael Rust. Rust’s remains were found in Saguache County in January

Gonzales is being held in state prison in Caon City on unrelated charges. Court records did not indicate he had an attorney and show Gonzales has faced several assault, theft and other charges in recent decades.

Investigators do not believe Gonzales and Rust knew on another. They are probing details of the events leading to Rust’s death.
