Cruz stumps for Glenn in Denver
For the first time since sweeping Colorado’s delegates at the state convention, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz returned to the state on a mission.
“We need a senator who will wake up everyday and fight to keep us safe. Darryl Glenn is that man,” Cruz said.
It was an endorsement, a week out from the primary, aimed at elevating Glenn from his one-time underdog standing.
“We need to consolidate the conservative base. By being able to have the Cruz supporters, the Trump supporters, the Carson supporters working in the same direction,” Glenn said.
His surrogate took aim at Glenn’s democratic incumbent Michael Bennet
“You can always find him in the exact same location, the left back pocket of Harry Reid,” Cruz said.
In a statement, the Colorado Democratic Party said Cruz’s endorsement only adds to the dysfunction in Washington, and he and Glenn are a pair who won’t work across party lines.
While Cruz never mentioned his party’s presumptive presidential nominee, but said he’s cautious about the top of the Republican ticket fall.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in November. I suspect there are varying views in this room, but regardless of what happens in November, we need a United States Senate that will check the abuses of the President of the United States.”
Cruz only hopes his influence is enough to get Glenn a victory next Tuesday.
Glenn goes up against four opponents. Former State Representative Jon Keyser, former CSU Athletic Director Jack Graham, Springs businessman Robert Blaha and former Aurora City councilman Ryan Rrazier
