Colorado Springs neighborhood continues battle against erosion
A channel along Sand Creek continues to cause problems for a Colorado Springs neighborhood.
Emergency repairs are underway for the area of Maizeland and Wold Streets.
The channel has been eroding since a storm last summer.
Rushing water took out a fence last week and is eating away at backyards along the creek.
Temporary repairs have been made in the area. A long-term repair project is still several months away. A homeowner that is being affected told KRDO that the erosion could cause major issues in the value of his property.
“I’m very concerned if the backyard washes out and all utilities wash out. It’s not going to be conducive to sell. I don’t think we could sell right now,” said Joseph Alcorn.
The majority of the $250,000 project is being funded by FEMA. The agency agreed to provide the funding last year after inspecting damage from a previous flood that washed out part of a concrete embankment.
