Former Springs mayoral candidate dies

A woman who ran for mayor in Colorado Springs last year has died.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office says that Justine Herring died on June 12, but did not release her cause of death.

Herring was arrested twice in 2015. In one case, she was accused of pointing an AR-15 at a man. In another, she was accused of assaulting her common law husband.

Herring spoke exclusively with KRDO NewsChannel 13’s Emily Allen following her first arrest.
