Efforts being made to improve El Paso Co.

A group of service men and women spent Saturday putting in a little elbow grease to give back to El Paso County families.

Members from command posts across the county painted, landscaped and repaired a “Head Start” building in the western part of Colorado Springs as part of a service project.

Their goal is to complete a project that benefits as many people as possible in the community, and they say Head Start was a perfect fit.

“As children and families come in, we want a beautiful calming environment for them to come in. Being a nonprofit, our budget is tight. So being able to have volunteers come in and do a bunch of makeover and refurbishing is fabulous,” said Marty Kemmer-Contreras with CPCD.

Through Head Start, the Community Partnership for Childhood Development provides free early childhood services for low income families.
