Fire burning in Las Animas County

There is a wildfire burning in eastern Las Animas County.

The fire has burned around 1,500 acres about 15 miles northwest of Kim.

The fire is at zero percent containment.

Firefighters from Las Animas County, Kim, Hoehne and Fort Carson are fighting the fire. Twenty-nine firefighters are staying overnight to keep an eye on the fire.

The Kim Fire Department said the fire is in a canyon-area where it is hard to get people and vehicles down safely.

A state-owned helicopter from Canon City has helped with water drops.

There have been no evacuations or injuries, and no structures threatened.

Fire crews plan on doing more work Friday morning.

Officials think lightning could have caused this fire.

Kim is located about three hours southeast of Colorado Springs.
