Pueblo officer who shot, killed Springs man identified

The Pueblo Police Department has released the name of an officer who it says was forced to shoot a man Friday.

Officer Michael Bellamy shot and killed Bobby Sanchez, 32, of Colorado Springs.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Lambert Avenue and W. 25th Street in Pueblo.

No officers were injured.

Investigators say that Pueblo Police were assisting the Department of Corrections Fugitive Unit at the time of the shooting. They say Bellamy was trying to arrest Sanchez when Sanchez pulled out a gun. The Critical Incident Team said Friday that Sanchez pointed the gun at Bellamy.

Michael Bellamy has been on the force for a little less than a year, according to the department.
