Ozone action alert active in parts of Colorado

An ozone action alert is effect for metro Denver and the Front Range region until Thursday afternoon.

With temperatures getting up to the 80s and 90s and the wind is stagnant or light, ground-level ozone starts to become and issue.

Ground-level ozone is a harmful air pollutant that affects everyone. It is formed when emissions from a car or other everyday items combine with other pollutants and “cook” in the heat. Ground-level ozone mostly affects the young, the elderly and those who are active and exercising outdoors.

Ways you can cut down on causing ground-level ozone include:

Carpool
Avoid idling your car while waiting parking lots.
Refuel in the evening
Stop at the click. Do not overfill gas tanks when refueling Tighten gas cap after refueling Keep vehicles well-maintained Mow in the evening Use new, earth-friendly lawn equipment

This alert will be in affect until 4 p.m., Thursday.
