License plate shortage in several counties including El Paso Co.

Those wanting to register their vehicle at county motor vehicle offices can expect a wait on getting their license plate.

According to the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles, the delay is caused by a low inventory of plates. Some facilities have even run out.

For now, customers will have to wait to get their license plate in the mail.

Counties dealing with a shortage include Clear Creek, Costilla, El Paso, Jefferson, LaPlata, Lake, Park, Pueblo and Rio Grande.

Garfield and Washington Counties are currently issuing license plates by mail only.
