Severe storms cause flash flooding in Colorado Springs

Flash flooding was widespread around Colorado Springs Monday evening as storm after storm hammered the city with heavy rain.

The Colorado Springs Police Department was on Accident Alert until just before 9 p.m.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department reports multiple water rescues as a result.

Drivers are reminded not to proceed through flooded intersections.

While flooding rains have been the biggest concern in Colorado Springs, other parts of southern Colorado were pummeled with large hail Monday.

Trinidad was hit especially hard Monday afternoon as hail stones larger than golf balls damaged roofs and ripped leaves from trees. Some streets in the city also flooded.

The storm that hit Trinidad moved east and produced a tornado in Las Animas County. No damage was reported.

A severe storm menaced Pueblo Monday afternoon, but the city was spared the worst of the weather as the largest hail passed to the west.

A series of severe thunderstorms developed across El Paso County later in the day. Destructive hail was reported in Calhan.

A tornado watch that was in effect for southern Colorado has been cancelled.
