Vigil for Orlando victims in Pueblo

a threat. vigils continue tonight in southern colorado for the 49 people killed and the dozens injured in that shooting. new tonight, krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller is live in pueblo at sister city plaza where a march for peace just wrapped up. greg, one state lawmaker says even in the midst of these supportive events, there’s still hatred. gay, straight, everyone was invited and about 150 people came to the vigil here tonight. but southern colorado’s first openly gay representative says while the show of support has been massive… there’s still a long way to go. nearly two days later, the pain is still so real. ron walters – great sorrow for the families and the victims. their quest for equality still so important. sot: you can’t judge people. you can’t judge people. gay and straight nats singing: all came together in song and prayer. esgar: we found our friends. and we came together. and we grieved. representative daneya esgar is southern colorado’s first open gay state representative. she says she still mourns. sot: you want to be angry, but hate doesn’t win over hate. love is the only thing that conquers hate. standup: esgar says she was proud of that support. 150 people came to the vigil in pueblo, but she says that support hasn’t been with everyone. i wrote something out of the depth of my heart on my facebook page. it had 127 shares, but it also had 78 comments, with hatred. people telling me to resign because i’m gay. she took the post down, fearing it was only making the situation worse. that hit me hard. but as she looks around at her local support – she finds hope. sot: there will be a time when all of this will have to happen that these messages – sot: it takes things like this to wake people up. sot: we won’t back down from something like this, it just makes us stronger. will ultimately prevail. the group that put this vigil together says pueblo’s pride weekend in august, will still go on as scheduled. live in pueblo, gm, nc13. the orlando nightclub
