Lewis-Palmer’s Alger named 4A girls soccer POY

The Lewis-Palmer girls soccer team had “unfinished business” heading into their 2016 season, after losing in the 4A title game the year before.

A 1-0 win over Valor Christian in the championship match this year finished that business, and now their leading goal scorer is taking home a bit of hardware.

CHSAA announced Wednesday that junior (now senior) Brianna Alger was named the 4A Girls Soccer Player of the Year, and Coach Joe Martin was named Coach of the Year.

According to MaxPreps, Alger scored 29 goals in 19 games for the Rangers.

Joining Alger on the All State First Team in 4A are Sarah Lyons and Karly Sandoval of Lewis-Palmer and Lauren Jones of Cheyenne Mountain.

TCA’s Hannah Burgo and Aleesa Muir, Air Academy’s Katie Scott, and Pueblo Centennial’s Justine Martinez all made the 4A second team.

Jayne Lydiatt of Pine Creek was named to the 5A Second Team.

Jessica Knedler of CSCS and Brooklyn Mack of Manitou Springs made the 3A First Team, and Carter Gwinn of Fountain Valley and Hannah Wilson of CSCS were named to the 3A Second Team.
