Avoid falling victim to roofing scam

With several people in the Springs recovering from hail damage, it leaves an open gap for scammers acting as repair men to wiggle their way in.

As homeowners are looking for contractors to make repairs, the local Roofing Association is urging them to be careful signing contracts with door-to-door contractors or paying up front.

They should also be wary of picking out-of-town contractors who may not show up later if there’s a problem.

“That’s a local association, those contractors have been vetted by the Association,” said Steve Seder with the El Paso County Contractors Association.

If you have someone approach you about repairs, you can contact the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department to check if the person has a valid business license.

If you feel you have become a victim to this scam, contact the Southern Colorado Better Business Bureau.
