Authorities hope DNA IDs remains found in boot at ski resort

Authorities are hoping DNA evidence will help them identify human remains found inside a snow boot at a Colorado ski resort, but it could take weeks for the test results to come back.

Boulder County sheriff’s spokeswoman Heidi Prentup said Wednesday that based on the size 13 boot, investigators don’t believe the remains belong to a missing 20-year-old man from Lafayette who worked at Eldora Mountain Ski resort. Family and friends of the man, who went missing in January after leaving work, also say they don’t think he owned the kind of boot that was found June 1.

Prentup says the leather, waterproof boot was found with a severed and decomposed foot inside and was weathered and wet. Crews searching for more remains don’t plan to look again until more snow melts.
