Concerns rise in Pueblo over possible leaks of radioactive waste

On Thursday, people at the Pueblo County Courthouse were warned about ongoing problems with the Old Cotter Superfund Site near Caon City.

Some experts say the holding ponds that were supposed to catch radioactive water may be leaking into the ground and eventually into the Arkansas River.

“Not just in the water but in the sediment itself,” said Pueblo County Commissioner Buffie McFadyen.

The Cotter Mill site once processed Uranium Yellowcake. There is also evidence of other chemicals coming down the Arkansas River from that site South of Caon City.
