Colorado Springs Mayor reflects on year in office

During the month of June, Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers will reflect on his first year in office.

Suthers first order of business was to thank City Council and voters for what he calls his two biggest accomplishments.

The passage of the 2-C sales tax increase to pay for a five-year street paving project
Ending a dispute with Pueblo County regarding storm water projects

On Tuesday, Suthers revealed to KRDO his goals for year two.

“I do think you’ll see some landslide legislation out of the City Council to make sure that people are appropriately aware of hazard zones, buying property in them. Things like that,” said Mayor Suthers.

Suthers said he also wants to continue to ease the city’s homeless problem and build a new, modern police substation to replace Sand Creek Station on the southeast side of town.

He said the cost for the substation will be between $10 million and $12 million.
