YMCA to convert ITZ property into new location

The YMCA intends to open a new location near Powers and South Carefree to serve the eastern side of Colorado Springs.

The property, located on New Center Point, most recently housed the ITZ family fun center before that business closed its doors several weeks ago.

YMCA spokesperson Keri Funkhouser confirmed the acquisition Monday evening, but didn’t have an exact timeline for the opening of the new location or details about what amenities it might include.

She said the non-profit has searched for a location to serve families in that part of Colorado Springs for some time and is very excited to move forward with the renovation and opening of the facility.

Money to create the new location will come from a capital campaign already underway to pay for a downtown location expansion and other improvements across the region.

The total cost of the renovation to the New Center Point building is unknown at this time.
