Builders transform Woodland Park motel into Condos

of affordable housing in woodland park will soon have a place to call home. the mountain town is one of eight sites participating in the ‘home builders blitz challenge’ with habitat for humanity. krdo newschannel 13’s colleen sikora show us how crews are transforming an old motel into affordable condos. it’s new at six. with a bit of hammering… and sawing… the lofthouse motel is transformin g from a vacant, run-down, eye-sore into… 1:31- a place for a family to live standing vacant for more than 10 years in woodland park… habitat for humanity and it’s partners are giving the motel a new purpose as part of the home builders blitz project. 2:09 now volunteers work to take down this original framing to make room for nine new condos. 2:09 we build about three houses a year because we are a small affiliate but to be able to build about 9 homes in such a short amount of time, in a four month period, is exciting for us and our community paul summeril, site supervisor for habitat of humanity in teller county, says the nine families will move in here by the end of september. each family will pay five to 600 dollars a month for a one, two, or three bedroom unit. that’s with a little volunteer-time on site before hand. 3:42as of now they have to do 3-400 hours of sweat equity. other volunteers are helping on the project. along with 10 contractors who are donating their time. 5:09 my excitement as a builder is to have the contractors work together. side by side. while the development of the lofthouse hotel is a huge effort… habitat’s executive director jamie caperton says the need in woodland park is greater. 3:39 if we could only do 200 families we still couldn’t meet all the needs. for now.. these nine condos are a start. in woodland park. cs. krdonc13 habitat for humanity in teller county is still accepting applications for the ‘new’ condos. to apply or volunteer to help build … look for a link on our website… krdo dot com. you’ll find it on the home
