Group rallies against gun violence

Mona Gallegos lost her son-in-law when he was shot outside of a party.

“We have to go to the cemetery, take our grand kids, we have to watch them cry for their dad,” Gallegos said.

Ted Vaca watched a man die after being shot in the back.

“He had one nickle sized spot in his back that was bleeding,” Vaca said.

They and a group of other people gathered together in Pueblo to try and stop gun and domestic violence

“It’s unnecessary, it’s senseless and it’s getting too big in this city,” said Floyd Jaramillo, a community catalyst.

Community members say they’re getting frustrated about all of the shootings, the latest happening on Friday night.

“That’s not acceptable in this community, we’ve got to stop that and I don’t know the answers. I know it’s a marathon, it’s not a sprint.” said Rita Marquez from Moms Demand Action.

Marquez says it’s not about taking away guns, but promoting gun safety.

“We need to put pressure on our lawmakers, their vote needs to go with gun safety to keep our community safer,” Marquez said.

Hopefully saving a few lives in the process.

“Speak up, we can’t hide forever from these people,” Gallegos said.

And changing the negative perception of Pueblo.

“Together, I know Pueblo, and Pueblo will roll up their sleeves and we’re going to solve this problem,” Marquez said.
