What do you think of the selfie statue?

A statue erected in a Texas town has been receiving mixed emotions from all over the U.S.

As part of a 10-piece collection, the selfie statue depicting two girls posing for a selfie now sits in the Sugar Land Town Square. The city stated in a release that all of the statues were donated by a Sugar Land resident.

Sugar Land Parks and Recreation posted to Facebook on May 27 asking what the public thought of the new statues. It got comments like:

“Selfie statues? Really? This is exactly why people think the younger generation is dumb. Of all things possible to display, this was chosen?”

and

“I love both the statues, nothing wrong with taking a selfie. Excellent craftsmanship :).”

Some think the statue is a great representative of a change in culture, while others feel it is a lack of substance.

The release on the city’s website states, “The inclusion of sculpture in the Town Square plaza aligns with the continued vision of the City and the Legacy Foundation’s commitment to establish cultural arts amenities that “provide and/or support activities and facilities that enrich the artistic, cultural, educational, and historical character of Sugar Land.”
