Hospital celebrates cancer survivors

It’s a huge obstacle to overcome and a hospital in Pueblo is celebrating people who beat cancer.

St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center is taking part in National Cancer Survivors Day Wednesday.

More than 100 survivors were at the Rusty Poppy in Pueblo to take part in the festivities.

The event had food and drinks along with steps to do for people who survived cancer, like fitness programs and educational booths.

Two breast cancer survivors said they were happy knowing they beat the disease.

“It was like a relief. It was like ‘wow, I overcame it,'” survivor Michelle Lenz said.

“Just a blessing, it is God sent. Just words can’t even describe the feeling,” survivor Jessica Mandarich said.

The hospital helps out about 700 cancer patients each year.
