Former surgery tech accused of stealing medication from hospital has HIV

The Department of Justice says that Rocky Allen, who is accused of stealing syringes filled with painkillers at Swedish Medical Center, has tested positive for HIV. Allen tested negative for Hepatitis B and C, according to the DOJ.

Allen was employed as a Surgical Technician at the Englewood hospital between August 2015 and January 2016 .

2,500 patients who had potentially been affected by Allen’s alleged crimes took advantage of free testing offered by Swedish following his arrest. Of those, the DOJ says about 500 did not participate in recommended follow-up testing.

Anyone who thinks they may be affected and has not been tested is urged to contact Swedish at 303-788-4646 to schedule free testing.

No illnesses linked to Allen’s case have been reported.

Allen, 38, previously pleaded not guilty to the charges of tampering with a consumer product and obtaining a controlled substance by deceit.
