Foundation tackles illegal dumping in Colorado Springs

The illegal dumping problem in southern Colorado is getting the attention of an international organization.

With the help of 250 volunteers, the International WeLoveU Foundation tackled illegal dumping in Colorado Springs last weekend, mainly at a site at Babcock Road and Galley Road. The organization participates in service projects throughout the world. When the local chapter asked the city of Colorado Springs about the biggest areas in need, the answer was clear.

“They said illegal dumping is running rampant here,” member Ayesha Bogart said. “The reason why that’s a really big problem is because people are dumping mattresses, TVs, couches, and other big items, but what happens with our homeless population is, they start to gravitate towards that, because it becomes a source of comfort for them.”

The foundation plans to continue working with the city to continue tackling the problem. You can learn more about future cleanup sites here.
