Colorado Springs woman’s death ruled a homicide

UPDATE:

Police say a 54-year-old woman who was found dead in her south Colorado Springs apartment last week died from blunt force trauma and stab wounds.

Virginia Lee Hampton’s death has been ruled a homicide.

Hampton’s son, Dennie Duece Weaver, was arrested and is facing charges of first degree murder.

No other suspects are being sought in the investigation.

There have been five homicides in Colorado Springs in 2016. There had been six homicides in the city at this time last year.

Colorado Springs police are investigating a suspicious death in the 900 block of Mt. Werner Circle.

Police were called to the home at 5:17 a.m. Thursday, May 19, after a woman’s body was found. They said the woman suffered traumatic injuries.

Detectives in the violent crimes unit are investigating.

The neighborhood is located on the city’s south side, near Highway 115 and Lake Avenue.
