Volunteers plant trees at Waldo Canyon burn scar

Volunteers will be doing some work on a popular hiking trail Saturday afternoon.

The El Paso County Bar Association is organizing a tree planting service project for the Waldo Canyon Fire at Cave of the Winds.

Volunteers will rehabilitate the area by planting native trees, which will help re-vegetate and stabilize hillsides. This will help prevent erosion, mudslides and flooding.

Several clubs are also sending volunteers to help with the planting project. Those include the Pikes Peak Road Runners and Incline Club, as well as the Coalition for the Upper South Platte.

Volunteers are expected to arrive at 8 a.m. Saturday at Cave of the Winds. The event will last until 1 p.m.
