Spring is here and wildlife are out

The story behind a viral picture of a baby bison in the back of an SUV at Yellowstone National Park has wildlife officers re-issuing a warning to the public: don’t tough or feed wildlife.

Tourists picked up the bison and put it in the back of their car because they thought it was cold.

But the animal had to be put down because it was rejected by it’s herd.

Here in Southern Colorado, a woman living in Rockrimmon was prosecuted for feeding bears.

And just last week, a group of people wrangled seven geese into the back of a car to save them from traffic.

Wildlife officers say it’s okay to look as long as you can do it safely.

But never touch.

It does more harm than good.

People that we talked to seem to agree with that policy.

Darlene Hicks of Manitou Springs said, “You can make peace with it and enjoy them from a distance or you can cause problems, that’s about the size of it. You start feeding them you’re going to create problems.”

Remember feeding wildlife is illegal and can carry a fine.
