Victims of deadly SUV crash near Larkspur identified

The Douglas County Coroner’s Office has identified two men who died in a crash that killed three people on Interstate 25 south of Larkspur.

The Denver Post reports that the coroner’s office is not identifying the third victim in the Friday night crash because he was a juvenile. The other victims are Valentine “Timothy” Baca and Simon Gene Mejia, both 40 years old.

Trooper Josh Lewis says the group had been heading north on the highway when their SUV veered off the road and into a culvert near the Greenland interchange.

Investigators say the three victims died at the scene, and none was wearing a seat belt. Police do not consider drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
