Pueblo’s sales tax measure for public safety hits road block

A ballot measure for a half-cent sales tax in Pueblo to help with public safety may have run into trouble.

On Monday night, the city council rejected a compromise between the city and the District Attorney’s office.

The proposed tax would help pay for more police officers, but the DA also wants the tax to pay for more prosecutors.

Because the council rejected the compromise, there could be two different ballot measures this November. The DA has said he’ll start a petition campaign to get the issue on the ballot if council does not support it.
