Heavy rain could threaten local burn scars Monday

Authorities will keep a close watch on the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest burn scars Monday, with heavy rain forecast for the area.

During past heavy rain events, the scars produced flash flooding, debris and sediment flows and the closing of U.S. 24 through Ute Pass in western El Paso County.

Runoff from that area also will flow into Manitou Springs, as well as Camp and Douglas creeks on the west side of Colorado Springs.

Heavy rain also could cause rockslides along Ute Pass.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 will be following impacts of the storm Monday.
