Pro-Pot rally leads to physical confrontation

What began as a small pro-pot rally led to a physical confrontation by one anti-pot observer in Pueblo West Saturday afternoon.

Michael Tapia tells NewsChannel 13 that he went out to the Safeway store on Purcell Blvd. to support several friends who were demonstrating in favor of the marijuana industry.

They work as “bud tenders”, and could be out of a job should voters approve a proposed marijuana prohibition in November.

They were demonstrating near a table where signatures for an anti-marijuana ballot initiative were being collected.

In a video taken by Tapia, you can clearly see an unidentified man confront one female sign carrier, and then turn his attention to the cameraman.

At one point he tries to take the camera, all the while telling the pro-pot demonstrators, “You are wrong, go away! You people shouldn’t be out here”

He can also be seen trying to tear a sign out of another participant’s hands.

The parties continue to argue loudly back and forth, with some passersby even offering to call the Sheriff’s department.

It never came to that. Though the argument stretches out for several more minutes, the man eventually calmed down and left the area.
