UPDATE – The new southbound entrance ramp from Cimarron to I-25 is now open.

Drivers who use the interchange at I-25 and Cimarron Street will encounter big changes beginning this weekend.

The new exit ramp from southbound I-25 to Cimarron will open Saturday morning. The current loop off-ramp will closely permanently. The new southbound exit is north of the interchange and will funnel drivers straight from the interstate to Cimarron, minus the loop.

The current southbound off-ramp will closed Friday night. There will also be lane restrictions on southbound I-25 between Bijou Street and Cimarron, as well as on westbound Cimarron between I-25 and 8th Street.

On Saturday night beginning at 10 p.m., southbound I-25 will be closed between Cimarron and the Nevada Avenue/Tejon Street exit, as will the southbound entrance ramp from Cimarron to I-25.

The new southbound entrance ramp from Cimarron to I-25 will open Sunday morning.

It all may seem confusing but many drivers say they can handle the inconvenience if it means smoother and safer driving later.

These particular changes come at a good time — just before summer travel season, which usually brings much more traffic through the interchange.

The entire interchange project is scheduled to be finished in the fall of 2017.
