Country’s first urban density conference coming to Boulder

The country’s first “Yes In My Back Yard” conference is coming to Boulder as cities grapple with higher housing costs pricing residents out.

The Daily Camera reportsgroups from cities including New York, Austin and San Francisco are expected to attend the YIMBY 2016 conference from June 17-19.

Sonja Trauss of the Bay Area Renters Federation says she hopes attendees can create a platform stating goals, beliefs and values.

Urban density supporters see more housing as the solution to rising costs, but in cities like Boulder they find restrictive regulations.

University of Colorado graduate students who want the city’s occupancy limit overturned are pushing to have voters decide the issue in November.

Opponents argue for protecting the look and feel of neighborhoods.

The conference costs $100 per person.
