Southern Colorado women making strides, breaking glass ceilings

With Air Force General Lori Robinson becoming the first woman to lead a top-tier U.S. war command, KRDO NewsChannel 13 wanted to talk with other powerful women making strides in Southern Colorado.

Many are breaking through the glass ceiling and making their names known for their accomplishments.

One of those women is Rev. Dr. Nori Rost.

“I find it ironic I’m a woman minister,” Rost explained.

Rost has used her power in the pulpit to give back to others for 27 years, but has overcome many challenges:

“A very poor family, I had a speech defect and wasn’t even understandable to anyone outside my immediate family when I was a little kid,” Rost explained. ” I got kicked out of my home when I was a high school senior for being a lesbian and joined the Air Force as a way to get stability.”

Since then, Rost has been on a mission to empower others.

“It’s very exciting to see women continue to find places where they can fulfill their own destiny and share their own power with others.”

Rost isn’t the only one who thinks women have come a long way.

“It’s amazing to be at a time and moment in American history when so many women are breaking through that glass ceiling, getting recognized for their accomplishments,” said Colorado College Professor Tomi-Ann Roberts.

Rost added, “We have a very strong possibility of having a woman president and what an exciting time to be alive and see women breaking down barriers and continuing to prove our worth and the power that we have.”
